Ian Xing

TUTORNOVA MENTOR

Hi, I’m Ian! I love seeing students succeed and love guiding them through the rigors of the HSC, both academically and otherwise. When I’m not at uni or tutoring, I love hanging out with mates. I also enjoy ruining my chances at becoming a first home buyer by buying too many Burrito Bowls.

I became a Tutornova Mentor because…

I believe that Tutornova’s innovative concept of online tutoring is both convenient and allows for both parties to communicate at their optimal mental levels without the fatigue of having to travel.

One piece of advice for students with big dreams is….

Go to bed early- big dreams require big ideas and big ideas can only come with decent sleep!

My biggest challenge in the HSC…

Fatigue. I overcame this challenge by…employing better methods of time management- being more organised to maximise sleep time 🙂

I’d describe my teaching style as…

Sharp, inclusive and organized.

If I could go back in time to when I was in high school I would tell myself…

Leave a bit more time for fun!

I keep motivated through hard times by…

Listening to Linkin Park and hanging out with friends

My philosophy is…

It’s not about where you end up- it’s all about the journey.

My favourite productivity tool or app is…(and why)

Spotify- Classical music really gets me in the mood for concentrating for an extended period of time.

When I’m not teaching, I’m usually…

Out with friends, re-reading the Harry Potter series… or at the UNSW library.
